How are the gloves manufactured?

Our gloves are manufactured in Sri Lanka and made from natural latex. This is sourced from the tree in a process called rubber tapping; the latex is harvested by slicing a groove into the bark of the tree with a hooked knife and peeling back the bark. It is a bit like milking a cow, and the freshly tapped sap of the tree is also known as “latex milk”. This process of tapping ensures that the tree isn’t harmed and continues to live.

What makes the gloves Fair Trade?

The rubber tappers, who cut the bark to get the raw material flowing, have received a fair trade premium. The premium is used for projects that help to improve the lives of their families and also the local economy. The aim of the Fair Rubber Association is to contribute to an improvement of the working and living conditions of the primary producers of natural latex (rubber), as well as promoting environmentally-friendly and chemical-free production of natural rubber

Are the gloves FSC certified?

The wood and paper products in our range are always FSC-certified, which is the gold standard of ethical production, meaning that the wood is harvested from forests that are responsibly managed (and not illegally logged). In this case, our gloves come from FSC-certified rubber trees. Rubber trees also sequester more carbon than most other tree crops

Are the gloves biodegradable?

Our gloves are one of the first natural rubber household gloves to market in the UK that have passed biodegradability testing (in accordance with ASTM D5511) and we are super proud of this.

Why do your rubber gloves feel thinner than others on the market?

Our gloves are one of the first natural rubber household gloves to market in the UK that have passed biodegradability testing (in accordance with ASTM D5511). They are lighter because they have been specially developed to biodegrade, but should work just as well as other household gloves on the market.

How to maintain the rubber gloves?

As these gloves are designed to completely biodegrade under composting conditions, it is very important to maintain the gloves properly. Therefore, please try to air dry and keep out of direct sunlight as the humidity and heat will speed up the breakdown process.

What can I do to prevent the gloves from falling down

Other gloves can afford to have a thicker beads at the top, whereas ours conform to compostability and biodegradability testing, meaning in order to comply we cannot have this very thick elastic band. We do have a slight beaded edge for this reason. As a result, we recommend slightly folding in the gloves to stop them from dropping down.

What is the difference between natural and synthetic latex

Natural latex is an organic material made from plant sources, whereas synthetic latex is a synthetically produced compound that mimics the properties of natural latex; rather than being harvested from rubber trees it is produced from petrochemicals and is not biodegradable

Does the latex in the gloves cause an allergic reaction?

Our gloves contain natural latex rubber, which may cause an allergic reaction. If signs of allergic reaction appear, discontinue use
