Supporting Refill Culture and Community at The Beecham Weigh
At Bio-D, we believe that real environmental change begins with the everyday choices we all make and that includes where we shop. That’s why we recently visited The Beecham Weigh, a brilliant independent refill and health store based in Malton, North Yorkshire, to film for our website and social media and to showcase the role that independent shops play in creating a cleaner, more sustainable future.
More than just a stockist of our 5L and 20L Bio-D refill products, The Beecham Weigh is a vibrant, welcoming space at the heart of its local community.
“It’s clear from walking in that The Beecham Weigh is about more than just shopping,” said Adele Whitney, Territory Manager at Natural Trade Brokers, who regularly visits independent retailers to support them with Bio-D product ordering and updates. “It’s about community, care, wellbeing and making sustainability accessible to all.”
More Than a Store: A Community Hub
The Beecham Weigh is no ordinary shop. It offers a piano at the back of the store, where one local woman teaches customers to play, seating areas for conversations over coffee, and a water refill station for anyone who stops by. It’s a place where people connect, share stories, and genuinely support one another.
We were struck by how every customer interaction felt personal, not transactional. Davina and the team greet people by name, ask about their lives, and offer thoughtful, individualised service. “You can feel that they care,” added Adele. “That makes all the difference.”
This community-first approach echoes our values at Bio-D, where ethical business practices and planet-friendly products go hand in hand.
Leading the Way with Closed Loop Sustainability
The Beecham Weigh proudly participates in our Closed Loop service, a key part of Bio-D’s circular packaging solution. Through this initiative, the store collects used 20L Bio-D containers and sends them back to our HQ in Hull completely free of charge.
We encourage all our stockists and customers to do the same, return your empty 20L containers in pairs, or by the pallet load. To make things even easier, we’ll send you pallet straps to secure your returns safely.
“Refill stores are a huge part of our mission to reduce plastic waste and create a circular economy,” said Lloyd Atkin, Managing Director at Bio-D. “When stores like The Beecham Weigh commit to the Closed Loop system, it proves that sustainability doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult, it just needs the right support.”

Customers Raving About Yorkshire Rhubarb
While filming in the store, we had the pleasure of chatting with several customers and one product kept coming up in conversation: our Yorkshire Rhubarb range. From Washing Up Liquid to Hand Wash, shoppers couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved the scent.
“It’s so valuable to hear customers speak about our products face-to-face,” said Hannah Boynton, Marketing Executive at Bio-D. “Hearing how much customers love the Yorkshire Rhubarb scent in person was such a highlight. It’s uplifting, fresh and really seems to brighten their cleaning routines.”
Hearing that kind of feedback first-hand reminds us why we do what we do. Our products aren’t just about performance; they’re about creating safer, healthier homes and celebrating both fragranced and fragrance free options, function and ethical integrity in equal measure.
