It’s September! Which means, it’s time to take the pledge and support Oxfam’s #SecondHandSeptember campaign by saying no-to-new for 30 days to help people and the planet! Which we’re all for here at Bio-D, doing everything we can to make sure our customers can recycle and reuse as much as possible – all year round.
Did you know that every week 11 million items of clothing end up in landfill? That’s equal to the weight of the Empire State Building! Growing landfills are putting increasing pressure on our planet and is unsustainable. But times are changing, and second hand does not mean second best…
Give clothes a new lease of life
Charity shops are a great place to search for thrifty-finds and the proceeds go to a great cause. You just can’t beat rooting through the rails and finding your favourite labels for a fraction of the price. Or if you’re searching for a statement piece that’s truly unique try popping into your local vintage boutique.
Once you’ve found your new wardrobe gems, give them a new lease of life with a little help from Bio-D. Our fabric conditioner protects fibres to leave laundry feeling super soft. It is also concentrated for lasting use. Making ironing easier, reducing wrinkling and wear and tear, our fabric conditioner is available in Fragrance Free, Lavender or Fresh Juniper.
Revamp your home
Looking to add some character to your home? Much like clothing, you can find some incredible second hand pieces of furniture right on your doorstep! You can find amazing bargains for unbelievable prices at car-boot markets or online via Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace – check out this amazing retro sideboard that Sarah-Jane (@homebythestation) picked up for just £20! Sarah-Jane brought this pre-loved piece back to life by using our brand new versatile and vegan furniture polish. It’s made from a blend of plant-based wax and natural oils that can be used on natural wood around the home. With linseed oil to help nourish wood and protect against everyday use – it gives a new lease of life to tired looking furniture and even protects against finger marks and spillages after prolonged use.
Hayley Stuart (Instagram: @iamhayleystuart) also used our furniture polish to revamp an old table top from a school science lab, along with a pair of quirky cinema chairs. The difference made was really impressive!
Have you tracked down the perfect antique mirror, but it looks like it’s seen better days? Don’t worry, our glass and mirror spray will have it looking brand new in no time. It contains orange oil for degreasing and natural ingredients to give mirrors a striking, streak-free sparkling shine. Top tip: it can be used on stainless steel for extra sheen too.
You’ll often find gorgeous vintage crockery, cups and glasses amongst the charity shop treasures, that will certainly spark a conversation at dinner parties. Simply pop them in the dishwasher with just one level dessert spoon of our dishwasher powder and they’ll come out sparkling.
The bargains you can pick-up secondhand are endless. Try re-homing books, DVDs, décor and trinkets to save money and the planet. A real wonder product to keep things clean and looking brand new is our multi surface sanitiser, that works on all non-porous hard surfaces. A little bit really does go a long way, and it and contains orange oil – so it smells amazing too!
