We’ve Levelled Up Our Impact! Bio-D Achieves Outstanding B Corp Score of 104.3

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Bio-D has officially been recertified as a B Corporation, with a significant increase in our impact score. Our new score of 104.3 represents a 30% improvement from our previous assessment in 2022, where we achieved 80.2. In a world where the minimum score to qualify for B Corp status is 80, this leap is not just a milestone, it’s a celebration of the progress we’ve made in our mission to create environmentally responsible and socially ethical cleaning products.

“This is a tribute to the good we do as a company, and we should be very proud of this new achievement,” says Heather Nixon, our Sustainability, NPD & Regulatory Manager. “It shows that sustainability is not just something we talk about, it’s something we measure and improve upon.”

Our new score places Bio-D well above the average and into the ranks of “outstanding” performers on the B Corp scale, a distinction given to companies scoring over 100 points.

What is B Corp and Why Does It Matter?

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The certification process is rigorous, and recertification happens every three years, ensuring companies are not only maintaining but improving their positive impact.

Some of the areas that contribute to our B Corp score overlap, from product innovation to stakeholder engagement, but all are critical in earning us points and making measurable impact.

As of February 2025, there are more than 9,500 certified B Corps across 102 countries and 160 industries. In the UK alone, there are now 3,389 B Corps, making the B Corp movement one of the fastest-growing communities in the country.

These businesses are held to a higher standard and we’re proud to be among them.

How Bio-D Improved Its B Corp Score

Between 2022 and 2025, we’ve made big strides across all five of the core impact areas assessed by B Lab (the organisation behind B Corp). Here’s how we improved:

Category2022 Score2025 Score% Improvement
Governance10.318.377%
Workers28.328.51%
Community16.820.522%
Environment20.932.857%
Customers3.64.011%
Total80.2104.330% Better!

This shows just how committed we are to making real improvements across every part of our business, from employee wellbeing and community engagement to environmental sustainability.

To achieve this, we introduced significant governance changes, including integrating our B Corp impact areas into our annual sustainability reporting, updating our mission statement to highlight community support and strategic partnerships, and conducting materiality assessments and ethics-focused risk reviews. These steps reflect our deeper integration of social and environmental considerations into all aspects of decision-making.

On the environmental front, we made a series of impactful upgrades that helped us achieve a 57% improvement in this category. These include the installation of energy-saving LED lighting, EV charging points, and ongoing investment into green energy to further reduce our environmental impact. We also conducted life cycle assessments on core products like our Washing Powder and 750ml bottles, reduced the packaging weight of our 5L containers, introduced PCR content into larger formats, and brought deionised water production in-house, significantly reducing GHG emissions.

We even developed a Travel Policy to limit corporate travel and implemented innovative water-saving practices, such as filtering and reusing water in our 20L washing machine. Products like our Concentrated Floor Cleaner were designed with water conservation in mind, and we launched an end-of-life 20L reclamation program to extend the useful life of materials.

Lloyd Atkin, Managing Director of Bio-D, shared:
“This result reflects the incredible hard work of the team, our commitment to improving sustainability year after year, and our belief that business can and should be a force for good. Achieving a 30% increase is no easy feat and scoring over 100 places us among the very best. We’re delighted.”

Consumers in Yorkshire Are Backing B Corps

Recent data shows that sustainability isn’t just a business trend, it’s a consumer demand. A Your Harrogate survey revealed that 82% of Yorkshire consumers believe it’s either “somewhat important” or “very important” for brands to be sustainable in their business practices.

Even more telling:

  • 36% say sustainability and social responsibility are a bigger factor in their buying decisions than two years ago.
  • 35% have already switched brands in favour of more sustainable options.
  • 43% are more likely to buy from a company with B Corp certification.

These figures are encouraging, showing that consumers, particularly in Yorkshire, where Bio-D is based are actively looking for businesses that share their values.

Outperforming Ordinary Business

According to recent B Lab UK research, B Corps consistently outperform ordinary businesses on several critical performance metrics, from supply chain ethics to employee satisfaction.

Bio-D’s increase in its B Corp score puts us firmly in this leading category. The average score for an ordinary business undergoing B Lab’s impact assessment is just 50.9, and the threshold for certification is 80. Our new score of 104.3 puts us more than twice as impactful as a typical business.

What’s Next for Bio-D?

Being a B Corp is not a finish line, it’s an ongoing journey. We’re committed to continuous improvement, transparency, and innovation. With sustainability at the heart of everything we do, our focus remains on creating eco-friendly cleaning products that are kind to you, your home, and the planet.

Whether it’s further reducing our carbon footprint, strengthening community partnerships, or reviewing our supply chain for ethical risk, we’ll keep pushing boundaries to achieve even more in the next B Corp cycle.
