In celebration of refills

In celebration of refills

Reusing empty bottles and containers to refill with household essentials is one of the easiest ways to reduce single-use plastics. This is why knowing where your closest independent refill stations are is so important.

Originally beginning with pantry essentials like beans and pulses, the refills now available have come on leaps and bounds. As well as being able to refill your favourite Bio-D products, refills are also available for all types of produce, from food and drink, to body care and even make-up!

To inspire you to try out your local refill station we’ve listed just a few independent stores that go above and beyond, that you can visit to fill up on your everyday essentials.

Locavore Grocery, Glasgow

Locavore is much more than an independent store, it’s a social enterprise. Created to help build a more sustainable local food system that is better for the community, the environment and the economy, since its launch in 2011 the team at Locavore has opened a shop, developed a market garden and even established a veg box scheme.

Selling a wide variety of local organic produce alongside organic groceries and household products, they keep prices fair and affordable – and what’s more is that all of their profits go back into building a better local food system.

Visit Locavore for their extensive range of refills, where you can fill up your own bottles with not only Bio-D, but pulses, grains and even living tea from local producers.

Better Food, Bristol

Both an independent retailer and café, Better Food specialises in local, organic, and ethical products, having served the local community for over 25 years.

After browsing one of their three Bristol-based stores for their huge array of fruit and veg, groceries, organic beers, wines and ethical household goods, you can pick up hot drinks and warming soups, freshly baked cakes and pastries and so much more from their adjoining cafés.

What’s also great is that they cater for lifestyle choices, allergies and intolerances, including vegan, dairy free and coeliac. And you can be sure that the employee serving you is passionate about food, health, the planet, and most importantly their customers.

Bio-D refills are available alongside a range of food and drink products, which you can find out more about here.

Infinity Foods, Brighton

Infinity Foods picked up on the demand for wholefoods way back in 1971. And as the demand has increased, so has the business! What started as a small outlet is now one of the UK’s leading national and international distributors of high quality, organic, Fairtrade and natural products.

A co-operative, Infinity Foods is a business run by its workers for its workers – with ideas of equality and fairness being a fundamental part of the initiative.

Located in the heart of Brighton, Infinity Foods sell 100% vegetarian foods, and alongside their refill stations – which stocks household products that are neither detrimental to humans, the environment and animals – they are also home to a delicious in store bakery.

Eighth Day Co-op, Manchester

Located in the university area of Manchester, Eighth Day Co-op is encouraging the next generation of eco-warriors with their refill stations and vegetarian, vegan, organic and Fairtrade produce.

Eighth Day was first created in the seventies by a group of friends who wanted to establish a way of trading goods away from the ideas of money commerce. Originally established as a craft exchange, the award-winning store now stocks essential pantry basics alongside specialist artisan ingredients, and locally made savoury and sweet treats on their deli counter. Bio-D takes pride of place on Eighth Day’s refill station, alongside selected eco-friendly body care items.

Hidden in the basement is also a café that creates fresh, wholesome and exciting meals for hungry customers to enjoy. Take a look at what’s available at Eighth Day Co-op here.

As the UK’s leading manufacturer of environmentally responsible, ethically sound, hypoallergenic cleaning products, we’ve spent the past year focusing on increasing the number of products available in refill sizes, and have recently added 5L refills of Bathroom Cleaner, lavender scented Washing-Up Liquid and Glass and Mirror Cleaner to our range.

The range of refills are available at selected independent stores across the country, who provide refill stations to further reduce plastic waste. This means that customers can continue to refill a single bottle multiple times, rather than buying a new one once empty. Refill bottles are also available from the Bio-D website to keep at home.
